Kocktails with Karly: The Makeshaft Wine Sprtizer

TGIF beautiful people! Welcome to Kocktails with Karly!

If there was a Makers Faire for cocktails, I would be the Queen Maker simply because of how bomb this spritzer is. Seriously.

I discovered this creation last week while Alex was on travel for work. I had a terrible bottle of merlot that had been cluttering my shelves since December and last week I was feeling listless… I had to have wine but alas, I hadn’t purchased any since we returned from vacation and was left with the dreaded merlot. (If you can’t tell, I’m not a fan of merlot.)

(Enjoy these peonies – random but pretty.)

I frantically searched my fridge and thought about my badass mama – this woman knows everything. She taught me how to make sangria, and from that I drew my inspiration to gussy up the lowly merlot – ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Makeshift Wine Spritzer!

The Makeshift Wine Spritzer

  • Red wine of your choosing (or a white)
  • 1/2 – 1 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1/4 – 1/2 can Izze soda (clementine and blackberry are best)

  • Pour glass of wine
  • Add ice, Izze, and Grand Marnier
  • That’s it. Literally so easy.

Behold the merlot transformed by the  bubbly glory of redemption!

EDIT: As I’m writing this, I realize that I didn’t  take a photo of my spritzer like a total dumbass. Just imagine a glass of red looking tall and dignified with a few ice cubes to sassy it up. Sorry, guys.

I bought more red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon) to make more spritzer for my amazing husband (he’s my favorite), and I can attest to the fact that this recipe is UNIVERSAL (aka it kicks ass with all wine varieties). Give this a chance if you need to gussy up a wine that you dread drinking but refuse to waste, OR with your favorite fabulous wine – you won’t regret it!
